Cheetah acceleration values.

[edit]

In checking references, I stumbled across something by chance.

This paper (https://doi.org/10.1038/ncomms11034) mentions that the acceleration of the cheetah is 13 meter per second squared (m/s²), and one of the references cited is the one cited in the paragraph about the initial acceleration of the cheetah, greyhound and horse.

"The initial linear acceleration observed was 12 m/s², twice than 6 m/s² of horses and greater than 10 m/s² of greyhounds."

This one here.

https://www.academia.edu/108858304/Locomotion_dynamics_of_hunting_in_wild_cheetahs

Which in turn cites the other reference cited in the same paragraph.

https://doi.org/10.1098/rsbl.2009.0360

So, the real value of the acceleration at the start of cheetah's Sprint is not 12 m/s², but rather 13 m/s².

So I am going to change the references next to the data. LeandroPucha (talk) 07:42, 7 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Cheetah dental adaptations.

[edit]

Cheetahs have relatively elongated blade-like shape carnassials, with reduced lingual cusps. This may have been an adaptation to consume quickly the flesh of a prey before larger and stronger predators from other species arrive to take it from them.
